The Gathering 2010

‘Twas up behind the Sunshine Coast between the hills and sand,
That 4WD club members all converged from 'round the land.

The Mitsu Club was hosting and folks came from near and far,
To see the pristine forests (and get mud all through their car).

Some folks had come from Perth and from exotic foreign lands,
Identified by dings and their non-purple ID bands.

They came from down in Tassie and some shivering souls from Cairns,
In tents and in the powered sites in wussy Nanna vans.

Young Rodney had, with others’ help, set up the gathering,
The people of Pomona …well they thought he was a king!

The garage fought off customers all week with heavy sticks,
The locals tried to foil the quiz contestants with their tricks.

Some went to silent movies and some ate the Chinese food,
While others fed the foot-thick pizzas to their hungry brood.

Trip leaders sent our four-wheel-drives to varied sites at large,
From northern Fraser Island to the Noosa River barge.

On Saturday, Bob’s Jug Band kept us bopping in the groove,
But later inside sleeping bags some were too cold to move.

The workshop leaders honed our skills in icing artistry,
And sewing and in two sessions, extreme photography.

Channel 17 was running hot the whole week through,
As volunteers coordinated all there was to do.

Rod was not so easy to get hold of and one day,
Eric had to summon him to dinner via PA.

Mary learned to drive the John Deere Gator mighty fast,
Soon, we all were used to her and Rodney cruising past.

Greg Conlon wore long trousers and a pullover one night,
The rest of us were reeling at this unfamiliar sight.

The weekend was fantastic, we applaud our hard-worked team,
Who made us proud to celebrate our national off-road dream.
